Tell us a little about yourself!
I have always enjoyed dancing since I was young, from doing Indian dance in primary school to the hip-hop & breakdance phase in my teens. Went to a few dance classes before to try out different styles and genre of dance. However, I haven't really explored any partner or latin dance before, until a friend told me that they have been doing solo salsa shines dance classes and that we should also try out the partner social dance classes. I found out that there was a whole other universe and subculture of Latin dance and its community. It was truly mind blowing lol
How did you get into learning Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk dance in Singapore?
I started to follow several Latin dance studio socials to find out what Latin dance is about. Stumbled upon Caliente Dance Studio and decided to try out their Salsa and Bachata trial classes. The rest is history.
What is your favourite dance class and why?
Favorite dance class has to be Salsa partner social dance definitely. Seeing the dance instructors demonstrate their intricate salsa dance combos along with the music which is usually fast paced was really inspiring. I also seem to be able to vibe more with its upbeat and exhilarating music 🎶
What do you enjoy the most about dancing Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk?
Learning new dance moves and combos always gets me excited and looking forward to the next class! Partner social dance has also given me more confidence and taught me how to lead well and how to communicate through body language.
What reasons will you give to someone to start learning how to dance Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk?
In addition to its health benefits and improving motor skillz, it really keeps your brain active and creative. Also, you will be able to meet tons of new friends from all walks of life and everyone is really accommodating and friendly no matter your level of experience. Plus its really fun!
Which Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk song do you like the most?
Current favourite Salsa song is Allegria by Fania All Stars. Very beautiful, chill Salsa instrumental music which makes you feel like you're on a beach holiday.
