Today, let us introduce to you one of our Salsa and Bachata social dancer 😍❤️🔥
Meet Azra!
Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Azra and I'm a recent convert to the world of (Latin) dancing. I’m outgoing and love a challenge, so I’m always looking for ways to push myself out of the comfort zone. I also love a good laugh. If you wanna get to know me better, please say hi at Caliente Dance Studio!
How did you get into learning Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk dance in Singapore?
Looking back, my only regret about my younger days is not taking up dancing. While I was always a fan of Latin music and admired the fluidity of salsa moves, I convinced myself I was either too old or destined to be the most uncoordinated dancer on the planet. But then, an ad for Caliente dance classes practically dared me to give it a shot. And so, summoning both courage and curiosity, I took the plunge, tried it out, and the outcome has since become history. I went from "two left feet" to “give me a beat!” Now, I'm practically addicted to dancing, taking all available classes and making up for all that lost time one move at a time!
What is your favourite dance class and why?
Selecting a favorite dance class is quite difficult as I enjoy them all! At the moment, I've got a soft spot for Salsa dance; its high-energy vibe matches my... well, let's say enthusiastic personality. Can’t side between partner social dance or solo shines though. Partner social dance classes are like a crash course in both dance and trust exercises. And solo shines classes? That's where I perfect my signature move: the "Oops, I meant to do that" shimmy. But the real jackpot really is connecting with some fantastic classmates and instructors who understand that my dance moves are more "interpretive" than perfect!
What do you enjoy the most about dancing Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk?
Dancing is a super engaging activity - it lets me stay present, throws exciting challenges my way, and fills me with this amazing feeling of freedom and pure joy.
What reasons will you give to someone to start learning how to dance Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk?
Start learning to dance for instant mood boosts, fitness that's actually enjoyable, the thrill of achievement and learning, and a social superpower that helps you connect with others and have fun. It's never too late to start, and everyone can enjoy the benefits of dancing. 🕺💃
Which Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk song do you like the most?
I favor many different songs for various reasons, but if I had to pick one that makes me want to dance and sing every time I hear it, it would be Vivir Mi Vida by Marc Anthony. This Salsa song is catchy, and the lyrics are all about living life to the fullest and enjoying every moment.
