Caliente Salsa and Bachata Student Spotlight - Zowell

Today, let us introduce to you one of our Salsa and Bachata partner dance student😍❤️‍🔥

Meet the fun-loving and bubbly Zowell!

How did you get into learning Salsa and Bachata dance in Singapore?

Oh dancing is my happy place! Started out with street dance back in 2013 and as time goes, it was getting too physically demanding for me. However, I could not give dancing up! So I went looking for alternatives and Bachata peaked my interest. (Thanks to Tiktok, Imitadora was trending back then LOL) I have never tried partner dancing and I thought it could be an intriguing change. So I searched for classes online and Caliente Dance Studio was the first to pop up! Starting off can be intimidating, but Caliente seemed really welcoming and beginner-friendly, so I went for it! And about 4 months later, here I am hahaha

What is your favourite dance class and why?

Without a doubt, #TeamBachataPartner hahaha I did give Bachata Solo a go (thank goodness for trial classes hehe), but still went back to partner. It’s team work on another level.

What do you enjoy the most about dancing Salsa and Bachata?

It’s an escapade! Dancing is truly the only time I am able to drop all my worries and fully be in the present and it grants me such great release after being desk-bound all day in my day job. For some people, it’s like going for a good Thai massage, for me it’s dancing LOL. Also, communicating not with spoken words, but only with my body through movement is so fascinating!

What reasons will you give to someone to start learning how to dance Salsa and Bachata?

You might wanna sit down for this one HAHAHA. But I’ll do you a favour and shrink it down to just 3 reasons.

Firstly, it’s definitely a workout, but doesn’t have to be super intense or vigorous. So it’s perfect for the working adults that’s getting exposed to dance for the first time, and still be able to show up and function for work the next day.

Secondly, if you’re just simply looking for something new to do, why not learn how to move to your favourite tunes? I can’t speak for everyone, but I’ve always found people who can move good 1000x more attractive drools HAHAHA Simply put, market value ↑.

Lastly, at some point you’d probably feel like your social circle is pretty much stagnant and if you’re looking to expand it, getting into social dancing will do just that! Meeting people from all walks of life, from different countries and being exposed to their stories/cultures; I must say is a great bonus.

Which Salsa or Bachata song do you like the most?

This one is tough, I have so many! But if I had to choose, it’s Hookah & Sheridan’s (Bachata Version) by DJ Khalid & Mr. Don
