Meet Yvonne 🌸

How did you get into learning Salsa and Bachata in Singapore?

Roughly two years ago, I was attending law school in NUS while I was just entering a new challenging role at work. My Japanese classmates who stayed near me always sent me home. During the ride, she will always put Bachata music. The music is so beautiful and deeply sooth the stress from my studies and work. I started to take interest in joining the Latin dance socials at Senor Taco where she will regularly go for, and I did not regret taking my first step! There will usually be a simple class before the dance social, and that was where I developed my passion to dance. It was only after circuit breaker that I started to systematically take dance classes at Caliente Dance Studio.

What is your favorite dance class and why?

My favourite dance class so far is the Salsa Intermediate partner dance class, as I see myself improving a lot from a complete beginners till now. I enjoy immersing myself in the music after getting better on the dance steps during the class practices.

What do you enjoy the most about dancing Salsa and Bachata?

I think both Salsa and Bachata are beautiful, it is a great way to build human connections. In my daily life, sometimes I forgot my gender, but during a dance I feel in touch with my feminine side again. Also, dancing can unlock cultural barriers through a social interaction. I had once travelled and visited a local Latin social, dancing was an interesting way to interact with locals and internationals there.

What reasons will you give to someone to start learning how to dance Salsa and Bachata?

If you like salsa and bachata music, please start to learn dancing. It's cool, you don't need anything else apart from your legs and music to dance. You can choose to dance solo, or you can dance with partner, you can dance everywhere.

Which Salsa or Bachata song do you like the most?

Bachate: Bachata Rosa, Lost on you - DJ Khalid feat Dama remix

Salsa: Yo No Se Mananna - Luis Enrique
